The bombing of Gernika

The bombing of Gernika (Operation Rügen) was an air raid on the civilian population of this Basque town on April 26, 1937, during the Spanish Civil War. The German Condor Legion and the Italian Legionary Air Force were fighting on behalf of the rebels against the government of the Second Spanish Republic.
